Mom Brain is Real—And Here’s How I Cope
You know that moment when you walk into a room and immediately forget why you’re there? Or when you start a sentence and lose your train of thought halfway through? That’s not just tiredness—it’s mom brain.
Mom brain is what happens when you're managing a million invisible tasks every single day. You’re the family’s event planner, grocery buyer, meal prepper, emotional support human, bedtime enforcer, and the person who somehow knows where everyone’s left shoe is. It’s no wonder our brains feel foggy sometimes!
Let me be clear—you’re not broken, lazy, or disorganized. You’re just carrying a mental load no one else sees. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make it a little easier. I’ve tried a lot of things over the years, and these are the 3 simple systems that help me declutter my brain and stay (somewhat) on top of things.
1. 📆 Double Calendar Life
I use both a wall calendar and my phone calendar to keep track of appointments, events, and birthdays.
-
The wall calendar is our family hub—everyone can see what’s going on and add to it.
-
My phone calendar is for quick adds on the go and setting reminder alerts (because I will absolutely forget). Hubby and I keep our family calendar synced (yep, you can have separate shared calendars), so we can both add or update things in real time.
Do I still miss things? Occasionally.
But at least now I have receipts when I do. 😅
2. 🔔 Reminder App Front and Center
I use a reminder app with a big widget right on my phone screen—front and center. I list my daily to-dos here and check them off throughout the day.
That little checkmark?
It gives me way more joy than it should.
It’s basically my grown-up version of gold stars.
3. 📝 Notes App = My Brain Dump Zone
This is where I keep everything that doesn’t belong in a calendar:
-
Weekly dinner menu
-
Grocery list
-
Daily schedule
-
Any random “don’t forget to...” thoughts
I edit this note daily and list the priority items at the top. It helps me feel like I’m starting the day with a plan—not a panic.
Hubby and I keep our grocery list synced, so we can both add or edit things as we go.
Final Thoughts
If you’re feeling foggy, overwhelmed, or like your brain has 67 tabs open... you're not alone.
Mom brain is real.
But with a few systems in place, we can give ourselves more mental margin—and maybe even remember what we walked into the room for. 😉
